Know any good Jerry Sandusky jokes? Want to buy some?
If, by chance, you answered 'yes' to that last question, I've found the marketplace for such a thing: eBay.
A seller on the internet auction site is offering for sale "30 AWFUL Jokes!!" relating to the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal. "Sick & twisted," the auction states. "This item is absolutely classless and awful and will have you falling out of your seat rolling on the floor laughing!"
As the late newspaper columnist Erma Bombeck once said, "There is a thin line that separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy, humor and hurt."
The eBay seller, PBPI, from Ohio, knows he is straddling that line -- or has completely jumped over it.
And he admits it.
"I receive hate mail quite often for this item," said the seller -- who asked that I withhold his name -- in an email. "Mostly through ebay (sic) messaging and from Penn State alumni."
Is all that hate mail worth $2.00?
Yes, two bucks is the starting bid.
And if you absolutely cannot wait until the auction ends, any eBay user can immediately purchase the lot of jokes -- not originals; although the auction is really a power point presentation with illustrations -- for a "Buy it Now" price of $4.00.
Can't say the seller has had trouble keeping up with demand, however. According to a completed items search on eBay, he's failed to sell any of the joke lots he's listed for sale.
But his page views on eBay are "off the charts."
Capitalizing on the scandal is nothing new, though. Put the name "Jerry Sandusky" on anything and it attracts attention -- whether Penn State fans like it or not.
That's just the way it is.
"I do not condone what happened to the boys at PSU by any means, and the jokes are meant to be just that, jokes," said the seller. "It in no way reflects our feelings toward that awful situation."
