YORK -- The York Capitals finally have an identity -- not to mention some players.

The newest franchise in American Indoor Football has signed running back Rafael Cooper, wide receiver Keith Stokes, linebacker Thomas Potts and defensive back/wide receiver Archie Smith.

The players were introduced Wednesday night at the Yorktowne Hotel, where the Capitals also unveiled their team logo. The team's schedule has not been released yet.

Cooper, 37, who played for the Detroit Lions in 2002, could not turn down an opportunity to join the team when AIF owner John Morris asked him.

"I live in Baltimore, I said, 'This is right up my alley; I can go there and start a new tradition,'" said Cooper.

York, which will play its home games at the York City Ice Arena, is already talking about winning a league title. "One way to reward this community for helping us out is to bring home a championship," said Ulander Giles, one of the team's co-owners. "That's our number-one goal."

Stokes, who lives in Lancaster County, and Potts each have experience in the Canadian Football League. Smith has previously played and coached with the Harrisburg Stampede.
