HARRISBURG --A catcher from Lebanon County is catching the eyes of baseball scouts from around the nation.
Annville-Cleona senior Nat Hughes will be traveling to Arizona later this month for the Under Armour Preseason All-America Tournament in Tucson -- an event reserved for only 300 of the nation's best players.
Hughes received his invitation after playing well at both the Team One Northeast Showcase and the Cape Cod Select Training & Competition session in July.
"Most of the time, when I'm there, I talk to the players around me; (to find out) how they've become better baseball players," said Hughes. "It keeps my mind distracted.
"I'm not thinking, 'Oh, there's a Yankees scout or a Mets scout; or a Phillies scout watching me.'"
Hughes, who's 5'8" and 200 pounds, is also a bright student, as well; maintaining a GPA over 3.0.
He's regarded as a Division II-caliber prospect by the Baseball Factory.
Under Armour Pre-Season All-Americans are selected based on a strong performance at a previous Baseball Factory Event or recommendation by a pro scout, according to the event's website.
Pro scouts representing 23 of the 30 Major League Baseball teams attended the event during the past two years.
