HARRISBURG - Michael Payton is hoping a third time will be the charm when it comes to induction into the College Football Hall of Fame ballot.

Payton is once again a candidate for The National Football Foundation (NFF) College Football Hall of Fame, the Foundation announced. Payton, a graduate of Central Dauphin East, failed to be elected in his first two years of eligibility.

Payton is one of 39 players nominated in the Subdivision category. Voters -- a group of athletics directors, conference commissioners, Hall of Famers and members of the media -- can pick only two of those candidates for enshrinement.

At Marshall, Payton won the 1992 Walter Payton Award, awarded to the most outstanding offensive player in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA). He was a runner-up for the award in 1991, as well. Payton went on to play professionally in the Arena Football League and also attended training camp with the Dallas Cowboys.

He is currently a coach for the Keystone Assault women's team in Harrisburg.

Former offensive tackle Vin Carioscia of Franklin & Marshall (1979-82) and running back Ray Condren of Gettysburg College (1981-84) are once again candidates in the Division II category.

Penn State All-Americans D.J. Dozier and Steve Wisniewski are among 77 candidates for the Hall of Fame's Football Bowl subdivision class of 2013.
