HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) - The early favorites are rolling on the first day of the PIAA wrestling championships.
The Class AA grapplers took to the mats Thursday morning for the first session of the three-day wrestling marathon. Pen Argyl's Michael Racciato and Benton's Zain Retherford are among the unbeaten participants trying for another state title.
Retherford is back after missing last year, when the PIAA ruled he was ineligible after transferring schools.
Class AAA wrestlers are in the spotlight in the late session.
The tournament's first day features frantic action for the wrestling fans, with six matches often going on simultaneously spread separate mats laid atop the Giant Center ice rink. The tournament is held at the home of the AHL's Hershey Bears.
Champions are crowned on Saturday.
