HARRISBURG -- Lancaster County's Travis Jankowski won't be able to help the Fort Wayne TinCaps win a Midwest League championship.
Jankowski broke a rib during Thursday's game playoff game and will miss the remainder of the league championship series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Grand Chute, Wisc., CBS 21 News Sports Director Jason Bristol has learned. Jankowski injured himself in the top of the first inning; reportedly sliding into second base on a wild pitch.
Fort Wayne won the game, 5-1; evening it's best-of-five title series at one game apiece.
Jankowski, the San Diego Padres' supplemental first round pick in June from Stony Brook, finished the regular season on a tear: batting .513 with two doubles and four stolen bases in Fort Wayne's final ten games. He finished the month of August with a .327 average.
The outfielder graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School.
He was hitting .259 in the playoffs.
