HARRISBURG -- The Philadelphia Union has waived Red Land High School graduate Alex Mendoza and Damani Richards, the club announced today.

A product of the Harrisburg City Islanders Academy, Mendoza, 22, spent the last three seasons with Mexico’s Pumas.

He was signed by Philadelphia on January 24.

Richards, 18, has been a regular with the Trinidad & Tobago U-17 and U-20 National Teams and was signed by the Union on January 19.

The release of Richards will free up an international roster spot, according to the team.

The Union opens the 2013 season on Saturday, March 2 when it hosts Sporting Kansas City at 4:00 p.m.
