MILLERSVILLE -- How do you top throwing a no-hitter?

Millersville's Chris Murphy pitched a perfect game Friday afternoon against Clarion, throwing only 64 pitches in a 2-0 victory at Millersville University.

It's the first perfect game in school history and just the 18th in Division II since 1957. Murphy (5-1), who threw a no-hitter against Glenville State only three weeks ago, is the first Marauder to throw two no-hitters in the same season.

In fact, its Murphy's second no-hitter in his last four starts.

"In all my years of coaching baseball, I've never seen someone throw a complete game with that few pitches," said long-time pitching coach Bob Preli.

The right-hander struck out six in the game, including the final batter. "It's pretty cool," said Murphy, according to the school. "It's something I can say that I've done. It's a real honor."

Murphy, from Newark, Delaware, is a transfer from Texas Christian.

The last perfect game thrown by a Division II pitcher came on March 13, 2009 when Stone Hill's Matt Giusti blanked Assumption.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect two no-hitters in four starts, not three.
