STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State junior Maggie Lucas has been named the Big Ten women's basketball player of the year.

The Lady Lions won their second straight regular-season title with Lucas averaging a team-high 20.5 points per game. The prolific outside shooter has turned into a complete player during her three seasons in Happy Valley.

Joining Lucas as a first-team selection by both media and coaches was Penn State backcourt mate Alex Bentley. Coquese Washington was named coach of the year for the second straight season by conference media, while Big Ten coaches tabbed Nebraska's Connie Yori.

Lucas and Bentley have been instrumental in sparking Penn State's return to Big Ten prominence under Washington.

The conference tournament begins Thursday. Top-seeded Penn State has a first-round bye and starts play Friday.
