STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - The International Olympic Committee's decision Tuesday to drop wrestling from the 2020 Olympics came as a surprise to Penn State coach Cael Sanderson, one of the sport's top figures.
The 2004 gold medalist isn't giving up without a fight, though.
Wrestling will now join seven other sports in applying for inclusion in the 2020 Summer Games. A final vote is scheduled for September.
Sanderson said he would do everything in his power to make sure the decision doesn't go through. He called this Round 1 in a three-round bout that he hopes to win.
Top-ranked and two-time defending champion Penn State hosts Rider in its home season finale Sunday.
