ENOLA -- Mark Jarmon threw a pair of first quarter touchdown passes and Ron Hunter's 45-yard scamper in the third quarter sealed the Central Penn Piranha's 31-7 triumph over the Fayetteville (N.C.) Horizon in the Gridiron Developmental League (GDFL) North Regional Championship game at East Pennsboro High School.
Central Penn (14-0) is now one win away from the GDFL finals. The Piranha will travel to Columbia, S.C., to face the South Carolina Venom on Saturday in the Xtreme Conference final.
Quarterback Jarmon found both Garrian Johnson and Darren Echols for touchdowns passes of 28 and 30 yards in the first quarter as Central Penn built a 14-0 lead on the Horizon (11-1).
The Horizon made the the score 17-7 in the third, but the Piranha answered on Hunter’s run.
Central Penn linebacker Donnell Donaldson picked off a pass and registered 10 tackles, including the 500th tackle of his career. Donaldson is now the Piranha’s all-time leader in career tackles.
Earlier this season, South Carolina set a new GDFL record for points in a game by defeating Bluffton, 98-0. The GDFL national championship game will be played at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., on October 13.
