Bottled waters have become popular, as part of the trend toward all things 'natural.' But it may surprise you to learn that bottled water can legally be drawn not just from wells and springs, but also from ordinary tap water. In fact, about one-fourth of the bottled water sold is merely municipal water that's been treated. If in doubt, check the label: it must state the source of the water. Bottled water and municipal water are subject to the same regulations. So there's little reason to assume that bottled water would be safer than your own tap water. Taste may be another matter: If you're buying bottled spring water, most people agree that spring water tastes better than regular tap water, which may contain traces of chlorine and other elements. However, you can achieve the same or even greater water quality at home, with a good water treatment system. There are a number of such devices, and with the cost of bottled waters, most systems can pay for themselves. For more information on improving your tap water, contact a water conditioning dealer.
