Choosing vows

You may choose to include time during your wedding ceremony for special readings, poems, or even personal vows to add a special touch to this important day. If you choose to write your own vows together, you can ask the officiant to read them during the ceremony. Make sure that you give a copy to your officiant a few weeks before the wedding, so that he or she has time to become familiar with it. Some couples choose to personalize their vows by reading them to each other. In this case, you will want to keep them very short and simple, since it is easy to forget them in the excitement and emotion of the moment. The vows themselves should only take two to three minutes. Whether you decide to write your own vows or change a few words of the traditional vows, you need to discuss your plans with your officiant. For more information on choosing vows, contact a wedding specialist.
