HARRISBURG - The Boston Red Sox have released right-handed pitcher Renny Parthemore of New Cumberland, according to Baseball America.

Parthemore, who graduated from Cedar Cliff High School, was selected by Boston in the 18th round of the 2009 draft. He signed for $150,000.

He missed all of 2010 due to injury and compiled a 3-1 record for the GCL Red Sox last season, Boston's rookie league team in the Gulf Coast League. Used primarily in relief, Parthemore allowed 18 hits in 30 innings of work, striking out 27 and walking 20.

Perfect Game scouting service ranked Parthemore as one of the top-150 prospects in the entire country prior to the draft; he fell to the later rounds due to his commitment to Penn State, however.
