UPDATE: 27-year-old man struck and killed on I-83 Saturday morning

UPDATE:  Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Officer Rob Hicks says a 27-year-old male was hit and killed near mile marker 43 on I-83 Saturday morning.

Trooper Hicks says the man, of McAdoo, was walking northbound on the shoulder of the southbound lanes.  For reasons unknown, the man ran into the traffic lanes and was struck by a Chevy sedan and killed, police say.  During the impact, the man flew over the middle barrier to land in the northbound lanes.

The next have kin have not been notified so an identity will not be released yet. 

Police say the driver of the striking vehicle is cooperating fully. 

The investigation is ongoing.

State Police in Harrisburg are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian on the Southbound lanes of 1-83.

A pedestrian was struck shortly before 11:00 a.m.

According to PennDOT Traffic Management Center, both northbound and southbound lanes of 1-83 near the accident have lane restrictions, but not total closure.

The condition of the pedestrian is unknown at this time.  Check back for updates.
