HARRISBURG -- Gov. Tom Corbett today joined a nationwide tribute to the victims of this morning’s mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard by immediately ordering that Pennsylvania flags be lowered to half-staff at all state facilities across the commonwealth.

Earlier today, the president ordered all United States flags to be lowered at all government buildings out of respect for the victims.

Both the U.S. and Pennsylvania flags shall remain at half-staff until sunset on Friday, Sept. 20.

At least 13 people were reportedly killed this morning at a naval office building in the southeast part of Washington D.C., not far from Capitol Hill and the White House.

“I join with other Pennsylvanians in mourning the innocent lives lost today and honoring the courage shown by our military, law enforcement and others, in bringing a halt to the rampage," Corbett said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of this horrible act of violence."

All Pennsylvanians are invited to join in this tribute.
