The Lancaster County District Attorney says a police were justified in a shooting incident on August 12th in Manheim.

Police were called to a home on Old Line Road in Manheim. for a suicidal person. According to the District Attorney, officers tried to approach the home when Steven Brill yelled for them to "go away". Police say Brill was hiding behind a car parked in his driveway with what appeared to be a rifle with a scope. Officers ordered Brill to put down the gun but he refused to respond.

Police say Brill went back into his home before reemerging and did not obey orders to get on the ground. The District Attorney says Brill reemerged for a third time with what appeared to be a rifle with a scope, but he would not comply. Police say Brill aimed his weapon at an officer, who discharged his weapon as well as another officer, killing Brill.

The Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman, says after a review of the incident, officers were justified in their use of deadly force against Brill.  The District Attorney's Office says after an investigation, they determined that a Daisy pellet rifle was the weapon Brill was holding. Stedman says the shooting is still justified because at the time, the officers reasonably believed the weapon was capable of causing death or serious bodily injury.
