HARRISBURG -- Early Sunday morning Jason Hotchkin a former player for the Harrisburg City Islanders and current Harrisburg Heat player was shot three times during an attempted homicide in West Chester.

A hospital spokesperson tells CBS 21 that Hotchkin is listed in critical condition as of Monday evening.

Police arrested 25 year-old Curtis Zebley for the shooting. He's facing charges of attempted homicide.

Hotchkin, 35, is well known and respected both within and outside Harrisburg's soccer community.  He was in West Chester helping to coach a youth program., something he regularly does during the offseason with the Capital Area Soccer Association (CASA).

Hotchkin retired in 2012 from the City Islanders and began an indoor soccer career with the recently reestablished Harrisburg Heat franchise.  We spoke to Heat head coach Richard Chinapoo, who was already planning on asking Hotchkin to return for the 2013 season.

"He did well for us and he was one of the players I intended to reach out to for this year but I need to put that on hold for now."

Chinapoo describes his relationship with Hotchkin as fatherly, and recently visited him in the hospital.  "I just saw him and talked to his dad who said Jason gave a thumbs up so I am encouraged by that," he said.
