HANOVER -- The Hanover Borough Police Department is currently investigating an attempted child luring that occurred around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of York Street.

A 14-year-old female was walking on York Street in the area of East Middle Street when she observed a vehicle travelling slowly beside her. As she continued to walk eastward a male driver began talking to the girl through an open passenger side window.

The driver asked if she needed a ride at which time the girl said “no” and continued walking. The driver then told the girl to “get in the car,” at which point she began running from the area. The girl ran home and reported the incident to her parents.

The vehicle is described as being a newer model Jeep Wrangler with a hard top, silver or gray in color, with black interior, and black tinted windows.

The driver is described as being a white male, between 50 to 60 years of age, heavy set, having a full gray beard and possibly a moustache. He was mostly bald with grayish hair on the sides of his head.

He was to have been wearing a white t-shirt and was wearing thin-framed glasses with oval-shaped lenses. The driver and Jeep were last known to be travelling east in the 200 block of York Street after the incident.

The police department is anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information on this described vehicle or driver to contact the police department through York County 911 or at 637-5575.

The investigation is continuing and no other information is available at this time.Hanover police investigating attempted child luring incident
