Homeless man accused in several Lancaster Co. burglaries

MARTIC TOWNSHIP -- A rural Lancaster County home, off Bethesda Church Road in Martic Township, became a burglar's dream.

State police say William Rehm III broke into the home through the basement windows Monday and Tuesday, but during his second time around, he was caught and arrested.

Police say this isn't the first house he's broken into. Last month, Rhem allegedly burglarized a home on Smithville Road in Providence Township.

At the state police barracks in Lancaster County, Trooper Jerry Sauers showed CBS 21 more than $30,000 worth of stolen stuff they found in a stolen van Rhem was driving.

Aside from the stolen jewelry and clothes, police also found toothpaste and mouth wash, which leads them to believe he lived out of that stolen van.

"We were shocked because we didn't think there would be this much property still in the van," Sauers said.

Sauers said that police are still working the case and, down the road, could possibly link Rhem to other unsolved burglaries in Lancaster County.

The items stolen will be available for public view at the state police barracks, 2099 Lincoln Highway East, in East Lampeter Township the following days:
Sept. 12, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sept. 13, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sept. 14 6 a.m. to 12 noon
