HERSHEY -- Today the Special Olympics PA Area M (Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and Northern York Counties) hosted the 10th Annual Fall Sports Classic at Hershey High School. Around 800 athletes competed from 20 different Special Olympics local programs.

The Fall Sports Classic is unique in that it is one of the only invitationals of its type at a local level that offers multiple sports participation. The Classic offered competition in Bocce, Long Distance Running and Walking, Powerlifting, Soccer and Volleyball.

The Fall Sports Classic gives athletes the opportunity to be better prepared for these state level competitions. The invitational also helps the coaches better prepare their athletes for competition by giving them more accurate times and scores to record for the State Competition. This event will also continue to increase public awareness of Special Olympics in Central Pennsylvania.

Special Olympics’ Mission is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy.
