CUMBERLAND COUNTY -- Crews are on the scene of a train derailment in Monroe Township, Cumberland County.

Officials say the train derailed after it struck a tractor trailer near York and Creek Roads around 1:40 p.m. Thursday. The Norfolk Southern train did not contain hazardous materials.

The latest report is that one lane of the road will reopen at 5 a.m.  However, delays are still expected until repairs can be completed, and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

York Road is closed at Park Place and Williams Grove Road. Creek Road is closed at Leidigh Drive.

The tractor trailer was attempting to negotiate a curve in the road while traveling south on York Road at a Norfolk Southern railway crossing when a freight train struck the trailer, which was carrying a large concrete beam.

As a result of the crash, several freight cars derailed from the tracks. The engineer of the train was treated at the scene for a minor injury. The operator of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The roadway will remain closed while the freight cars are cleared from the area surrounding the tracks. There is no danger to the public due to the derailment. LATEST: Train and tractor trailer collide, road to remain closed until at least 5 a.m.
