Northern York County Regional Police say a Newberry Township man has been charged with attempted homicide following a fire in Dover  Township on August 7th.

Police say the fire happened around 2:43 a.m. at a home in the 2900 block of Deep Hollow Road.

Police say a blue plastic container with an unknown accelerant was set ablaze adjacent to the home. The fire spread from the plastic container to the mulch bed and onto the home.  The fire damaged the siding on the home and charred the wooden deck of the railing.

Police say three cars parked at the home had their tires slashed and graffiti written on them. According to a press release, the graffiti on the car indicated that it was not a random act.

None of the  people in the home at the time of the fire were injured.  The interior of the home sustained smoke and water damage.

Police say Thomas M. Funk, 25, of Newberry Township is the former love interest of one of the females that was inside the home at the time of the fire.

Funk allegedly set fire to the home utilizing a mixture of flammable liquids that were stored in a 5 quart motor oil container.  There were four adults and five children, between the ages of 18 months to 14 years, in the home at the time of the fire.

Police say Funk was identified by a car that officers noticed the night of the fire.

Funk is charged with nine counts of criminal attempt homicide, nine counts of aggravated assault, arson-danger of death or bodily injury, causing or risking a catastrophe, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.

Funk is currently at the York County Prison in lieu of $1,000,000.00 bail.
