Man crashed his car into Marysville home

Updated: Sunday, August 18 2013, 09:49 AM CDT
Reported by Ewa Roman (eroman@sbgtv.com)

"Very emotional.
Mentally, physically draining. 100-percent, it's a living nightmare, is
what it really is," says April from Marysville.

April gives us an idea of what her close friend and neighbor, Sandra Corl, may be going through.

"I
had endured a house fire myself less than three years ago and as a
neighbor she helped us out tremendously and I just knew I needed to pay
it forward," said April.

State Police say the fire started around
1:30 Saturday morning, at the 100 block of South Main Street in
Marysville, Perry County.

The driver slammed his car into the side of the house and that sparked a huge blaze.

Public
Information Officer John Bruetsch, says the woman and her dog got out
safely. Witnesses say two people came to their rescue.

"Thank God for good samaritans and good people still exist in this world," said Karen Hernandez, neighbor and friend.

The public information officer also says not too long ago the woman who lives there lost her husband.

He
was in the military and his flag was in a cabinet that fell over when
the car hit the house. Neighbors say that flag was partially saved.

The driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI. A passenger fled the scene.
CBS
21 News stopped by the driver's house, which sits just a few houses
down from where the fire happened. But our crew was kicked off property.

"I
hate to say this, but this has been a long time coming. There's a bar
at each end of the street and police barely enforce the speed limit, if
at all," said Karen.

Karen Hernandez says she's filed a petition
with the borough of Marysville to add speed bumps on that street. But
she was denied, because she didn't have enough signatures. Needless to
say, she's going to try again.
