Swim club treasurer accused of taking $20K from club

The New Holland Police Department has charged a woman accused of stealing $20,000 from a swim club.

Police say they met with the board members of the New Holland Dolphins Swim Teamon September 2, after they discovered missing funds from the club's account.

Police say the board members had discovered numerous unauthorized withdrawals, issued checks and unauthorized transactions with the swim team's debit card after the former Treasurer of the club had left the position.
 
An investigation revealed that former New Holland Swim Team Treasurer Shelly Martin,  had issued unauthorized checks to herself and institutions not affiliated with the swim team, used the swim team's debit card to make unauthorized personal purchases and withdrew cash from the swim team's account which she deposited in to her personal account or used for personal use.
 
Police say Martin stole $20,046.32 from the New Holland Dolphins Swim Team while serving as Treasurer.  Officers interviewed Shelly Martin on September 17th and admitted to the theft. She told police she had taken the money between January 2010 and August of 2013.
 
Martin is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition. She was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
