York County fire displaces residents in Monaghan Twp fire

Monaghan Township -- In York County, firefighters had to find a source other than a hydrant to battle a morning fire.

The fire broke out in a garage attached to a home around 8 a.m. on Siddonsburg Road in Monaghan Township. Neighbors say they heard an explosion and then saw flames shooting out of the home.

When the fire began to spread, people living nearby say firefighters had to pump water from the nearby Yellow Breeches Creek because there aren't any hydrants in the area.

“There's a small stream down here, and they have to usually fill tankers with water or pump it straight from there to get it to the house,” explained Cheryl Fauth, who lives nearby.  “There's been several fires back here that have taken a while to put out just because of the problems with trying to pump in the water to the home.”

Officials believe the blaze started because of a car malfunction in the garage.
