A Lancaster County company suing the federal government over President Obama's Healthcare Reform Law, will soon be in court.
Conestoga Wood Specialties says it's being forced by the federal government to violate its religious beliefs. And this suit, filed a few months ago, should be in front of a judge before summer.
"They're frustrated. They are frustrated as religious people. They are frustrated as American citizens." Said Randall Wenger, of the Independence Law Center.
Conestoga Wood Specialties has been in operation for 50 years. In that time, its Mennonite owners have run the business in line with their faith. But now they're suing the federal government, saying they are being forced to violate their religious beliefs.
"So this particular government mandate is one saying forget your religious belief, you have to do what we say if you are going to be in business. That just seems like a very anti-American concept." Wenger said.
Under President Obama's Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, companies with more than 50 employees must offer contraception. But the government's definition of contraception includes, what many consider, abortion pills.
After losing a temporary injunction, Conestoga Wood Specialties, is now being forced to offer that medication.
Wenger, says his client, is not alone in its lawsuit. Throughout the country, 41 similar one are pending involving 100 plaintiffs. "And if they have to ditch their religious beliefs, or other Americans have to give up what they hold close to their conscience, other liberties are not far behind."
