In this week's Lie or Legit, we get to the bottom of a rumor that Wendy's has a secret menu item.

The story began with national news reports, including one on CBS 21 News earlier this week, that revealed so-called 'secret' treats available at several popular fast food and coffee shops.

The most arterie-clogging option was the "Grand Slam," a four-patty burger said to be available at some Wendy's locations... even though it's not advertised on the regular menu.

The idea of a "Grand Slam" sounds logical enough. Wendy's other burger options include the Single, Double, and Triple with Cheese. In baseball terms, the next logical step would be a Home Run, or a Grand Slam.

But upon calling several Wendy's locations across Central Pennsylvania, including locations on Harrisburg, Carlisle, Lebanon, Chambersburg, and York, none of the people we spoke to on the phone could confirm that the Grand Slam existed.

One worker did indicate that the call from CBS 21 News was the third she'd received so far during her shift. Another Wendy's employee said she'd heard of such a burger, but that it would be impossible to sell it, because they "don't have a button for that" on the Wendy's cash register. A third employee told CBS 21 News that he believed the Grand Slam to be some type of intenet hoax.

But we weren't giving up yet.

Although it isn't proof, a quick search of You Tube revealed two videos featuring customers ordering and eating the Grand Slam burger at Wendy's.

Finally, CBS 21 News sent an email to Wendy's Corporate Headquarters in Ohio, asking about the rumor of a special burger on a secret menu.

The following is the response we received:

Mike --- whether it's called a Grand Slam or a Home Run, we'll sell you four patties on a bun if you order it.  It's not on the menu; however we do have a Single (1/4 lb), Double (1/2 lb) , and Triple (3/4 lb)  Hamburger on the menu.  Adding a fourth patty to make a Home Run or Grand Slam makes sense.

Based on the email from Denny, we're going to call this one LEGIT, with the understanding that the Grand Slam does exist... Just not at every Wendy's location.

Lie or Legit can be seen every Tuesday on CBS 21 News at Ten on the CW15.
