It's a scam that hits you right in the heart.  Several people in York County are being told they must send money fast, to help an injured family member.

We've reported on similar scams before, but police say this scam has a twist.

These scam artists are not only telling would be victims their loved ones are hurt, they are then threatening to shoot them if they don't immediately hand over money.

It's a call no one wants to get.  On the other end, a stranger saying your loved one has been in a minor car crash.  Then the caller threatens to shoot your family member if you don't bring money.

Springettsbury Township Police say this exact scam has happened here, and in other parts of York County.

Police say it's typically a male caller and the best thing to do is be very cautious. They also advise if you have doubts, to call police for guidance.

From Springettsbury Twp. police:

On Monday 3/11/2013 a resident contacted police about a suspicious phone call he received.

A man on the phone told the resident that the resident's brother was involved in a car crash which injured the caller's family member.

The caller told the resident that he would need to bring money to the caller or they would shoot his brother.

Similar phone calls have been made in other areas of York. Police would like to remind everyone to be very cautious of phone scams. If you have any doubt if a phone call is legitimate please contact the police for guidance.
