Some homeowners in Lebanon County are looking at paying bigger bills next year. Lebanon City and Cornwall Borough plan to increase property taxes to balance the budget.
Cornwall Borough hasn't had a property tax increase in close to 2 decades. But now, council members tell CBS 21 News , they plan to increase taxes by 67-percent.
"They haven't had a tax increase for 16 years. So I think it's due," said Joe Novosel, Cornwall Borough, home owner.
Homeowner Joe Novosel isn't angry, he's more understanding.
" It's high, I understand that, but what are you going to do? They need it," said Novosel.
Joe and some of his neighbors say they don't mind paying extra, if it means keeping roads plowed and police on the streets. That's the story in Cornwall Borough.
In the City of Lebanon, council members proposed a 35-to-41 percent property tax hike.
"I don't think they have any alternative," said a Lebanon City homeowner, who didn't want to be identified.
Inside Mel's Diner in Lebanon CBS 21 News found a dentist, who's lived in the city for 35 years.
"Nationally, locally, state wide, something has to be done. We can't keep raising people's taxes, there just isn't enough money there," he said.
The city is also planning to cut 17 positions, some of them are vacancies and some include police. That's something homeowners say could jeopardize neighborhood safety.
These budgets may still change before they're turned by the December first deadline.
