UPDATE:
The ramp closure scheduled to begin on April 1st, has now been rescheduled for April 8th.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
The ramp from northbound Interstate 81 to both Front Street ramps will be closed for 90 days starting on April 1.
The ramp includes both the southbound and northbound Front Street ramps.
Weather permitting, the ramp is scheduled to close Monday morning and remain closed for about three months.
The detour for motorists will take them further northbound on 81 to the interchange with Route 22/322, west on Route 22/322 to the exit for Linglestown Road and then Linglestown Road to Front Street.
The ramp closure is necessary as part of the major project that has been underway for the George Wade Memorial Bridge and will wrap up this summer.
Nearly all of the ramps associated with the bridge have been repaired. In general, the rehab work involves structural steel repairs, repairs to the concrete piers and protective painting of portions of the steel.
PennDOT has contracted with J.D. Eckman, of Atglen, to rehab the George Wade Bridge.
Work is scheduled to be completed in Summer of 2013.
The bridge was classified as structurally deficient and most of the work will take place on the substructure and superstructure of the bridge.
