On Friday, police arrested 47-year-old Rodney Nissley and charged him with rape of a child, indecent assault, and incest and other charges.

Police launched their investigation into this sexual abuse case in November of last year after a Lower Dauphin High School student told her High School counselor that she had been the subject of several years of sexual abuse starting in 2006.

Paul O'Donnell lives down the street from Nissley. He says he finds it disturbing.  “I find that to be deeply troubling. Having a 5-year-old daughter, that really hits home with me.”

Nissley was a member of the Lower Dauphin Board of School Directors.  Friday afternoon, the Lower Dauphin School District released a statement saying in part:

“The District is saddened to learn of the charges filed by the Hummelstown Borough Police Department against Mr. Rodney Nissley, a member of the Board of School Directors. The District has and will continue to cooperate with the Hummelstown Police Department.

“When you have someone who is in a position of authority, let alone someone who helps guide what our children do – is again, even more troubling.” Said O'Donnell.

According to the Lower Dauphin School District, Nissley has stepped down from his position on the board.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nissley on May 22nd.

A member of the Lower Dauphin School Board has been charged with rape of a child.

In November of 2012, a Lower Dauphin High School student told her high school counselor that she had been the subject of several years of sexual abuse.  The school immediately reported the allegations to the Dauphin County Children and Youth Services and to the Hummelstown Police Department.

During an investigation, police say Rodney B Nissley, 47, of Hummelstown was charged with rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, incest, indecent exposure, corruption of minors, and unlawful contact with a minor.

Police say none of the allegations had taken place during school events nor are related to the school.

Nissley was arraigned and released on $25,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 22 at 9:30 a.m.

Lower Dauphin School District released a statement Friday afternoon saying,
"The District is saddened to learn of the charges filed by the Hummelstown Borough Police Department against Mr. Rodney Nissley, a member of the Board of School Directors.  The District has and will continue to cooperate with the Hummelstown Police Department.  Mr. Nissley is a resident of Hummelstown Borough and has been a member of the Board of School Directors since December 2008, representing the Borough of Hummelstown and part of South Hanover Township.  On Thursday, March 14, he resigned his seat on the school board. The district expresses its concern for all the parties affected by this case and will have no further comment on this matter, as it proceeds through the criminal justice system."
