Recap: Youngstown St vs. Green Bay
Youngstown, OH (Sports Network) - Damian Eargle led all five starters in double figures as he dropped in 17 points for Youngstown State, the Penguins defeating Green Bay by a score of 77-60 in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament at the Beeghly Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the sixth-seeded Penguins (16-14) were Dushawn Brooks with 16 points, Kendrick Perry 15, Ashen Ward 14 points and Blake Allen 11 as the team advanced in the 33rd annual tourney.
The seventh-seeded Phoenix (15-15) were paced by Alec Brown who tallied a game-high 20 points and also pulled down nine rebounds in the setback.
Not only did YSU shoot an even 50.0 percent from the floor in the first half, the team also connected on 8-of-12 behind the three-point line in the frame in order to take a 45-34 lead at the break.
In the second half the Penguins dipped all the way down to only 2-of-11 shooting beyond the arc, but the defense held the visitors to just nine made field goals in the period, allowing Youngstown to cruise to the 17-point win.
Green Bay was guilty of 17 turnovers on the night.
With the victory the Penguins are now set to face off against third-seeded Detroit in the second round on Friday after the Titans defeated Loyola- Chicago, 80-71.Game Notes
